Bidvest Wits booked their place in the semifinals of the 2017 Telkom Knockout Cup with a 1-0 win over Baroka FC at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday evening.
Amr Gamal with the only goal of the game as the Clever Boys sealed their spot in the final four. Victory restoring some hope for Gavin Hunt, with his troops currently battling at the wrong end of the Absa Premiership log standings.
Bakgaga, who have enjoyed a stellar campaign thus far, made their intentions clear from the onset and went close through Gift Motupa within two minutes.
Darren Keet forced into a top save to deny the midfielder who's dipping effort from range was on it's way to rattling the back of the net.
The Clever Boys duly opened the scoring as Gamal bagged his third of the competition: guiding home Vincent Pule's low cross.
The visitors continued to probe with chances aplenty at either end of the pitch throughout the opening stanza. Keet up to the task once more in the 40th minute after Motupa broke through on goal.
Hunt's men with a narrow lead at the break.
Bidvest Wits tightened up their defence following the interval as they set their sights on the next round, but progression wasn't sealed without a few nervy moments.
Robin Ngalande and Albert Mothupa guilty of scuffing their attempted efforts after darting in behind the Clever Boys defence.
In the end, though, Gamal's early goal proved to be the difference between the two sides as domestic football takes a back seat ahead of the impending international break.
