Congo and Uganda exited their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification campaigns with a rather dull 1-1 draw in their final Group E match at the New Kintele Stadium in Brazzaville on Sunday.

The result leaves Congo without a win in Group E as they hold up the bottom of the standings with only two points from six matches.

The draw for Uganda leaves them in second place in Group E with nine points.

Egypt are the team to qualify from Group E after topping the standings irrespective of the last round of games.

The home side got off to the perfect start with Marvin Baudry opening the scoring for Congo in the tenth minute, 1-0.

Uganda, though, quickly hit back with Milton Karisa levelling matters a minute later, 1-1.

Congo controlled the rest of the half, but struggled to break down the Ugandan defence as the two nations headed into the half time break all-square.

The second half saw Uganda gaining the ascendancy early on, but their finishing in front of goal was poor with their attackers constantly firing off target.

Congo struggled to get their foot on the ball in the second 45 and were mere spectators in front of their home crowd.

Nonetheless, Congo threw players forward in the final ten minutes of the match as they went in search of a winner which they were unable to find as the game ended 1-1.
