South African midfielder Thulani Serero says he would rather sit at home on his sofa than be on Bafana Bafana’s bench.
Serero failed to honour a call-up to the SA national team for their 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Senegal, the second of which will be held later this evening in Dakar.
The Vitesse player found himself benched for Bafana’s last three matches and believes that unless he is going to play, there is no point in turning up for the national team.
"The sofa in Arnhem is more comfortable than the South African bench," Serero is quoted as telling the Dutch media. "I have thought about it long and hard.
"If the national team wants me, then I must play. As the situation is now I don't want to go."
Serero is set to face disciplinary action from the South African Football Association and it is likely that his international career is over
