Senegalese international Oumar Niasse has stated that he feels sorry former Everton FC manager Ronald Koeman.

The Dutch trainer was fired by the English Premier League (EPL) club last month due to the team's poor results.

Niasse was demoted to the Everton's Under-23 side following the arrival of Koeman at the Liverpool-based club in 2016.

The 27-year-old spent the second round of the 2016/17 season out on loan at Hull City where he impressed - scoring four goals in 12 EPL starts.

“I feel sorry for him [Koeman], what happened to him when the club got rid of him," Niasse told Sky Sports.

“Honestly, they were ready to let me go. I was ready also to go because I knew that it would be a difficult season if I stayed here but at the end I didn't go.

Upon his return to Everton, Niasse made four league appearances for the Toffees between August and October under Koeman.

“I said thank you to him because he could have said 'no, you are staying with the U23s' but when I came back he brought me back to the team.

"That has allowed me to be here today."

Niasse has scored four goals in six league starts to date for Everton, who are now under the guidance of caretaker manager David Unsworth.
