SuperSport United coach Eric Tinkler was happy to see his team at least claim an away goal in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final against TP Mazembe.
United went down 2-1 at Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Sunday, but Sipho Mbule’s away goal gives them a great chance to turn the tie around when they host the return leg this coming weekend.
In fact, Tinkler believes the 2-1 defeat is a better result than a goalless draw because of the value of a goal on the road.
"We put up a good performance in the opening 20 minutes and could have at least gotten a goal in the first half," Tinkler is quoted by CAF.
"However, I am not too saddened by the result. I would rather go home with a 2-1 loss than a 0-0 draw because we have a goal advantage. It will not be easy at home but a solid game plan should give us the desired result."
Mazembe coach Phamphile Mihayo, however, believes his side is on course to claim the continental prize for the second successive time.
"We wanted to play well and win the game because we are home and needed to be offensive. Going to Pretoria will be difficult and they will pressurise us from the onset but we will have a plan that will give us the desired result," he explained.
"They are a very good side which isn’t easily broken down but we will have a good game plan."
