Free State Stars will welcome an in-form Chippa United for an Absa Premiership clash at Goble Park on 22 November 2017, kick-off at 18h00.
Stars saw their fine form cut short when they were beaten 1-0 at Cape Town City on November 1. The Free State side had claimed 10 points from the 12 available in the four games leading up to their visit to the ‘Mother City’.
Ea Lla Koto have had mixed results at home so far this campaign, with one loss, two draws and one defeat from their four turns as hosts. Their last home league clash was a 1-1 draw against Platinum Stars in October.
Chippa claimed a second successive win and extended their unbeaten run in the league to seven matches with a 2-0 win at champions Bidvest Wits on November 1. The Eastern Cape side’s victory in Johannesburg came courtesy of two goals from Samuel Julies - his first in the league since 2012.
The Chilli Boys have claimed six points from a possible 15 on the road thus far in 2017/18, with their win at Wits having been their first three-pointer away from home. They’ve also drawn matches at Golden Arrows, SuperSport United and Platinum Stars.
In head-to-head stats, Stars and Chippa have met in eight league matches since 2012/13. Ea Lla Koto have claimed four wins compared to three for the Chilli Boys, while just one match has been drawn. The Free State boasts an unbeaten record at home to their Eastern Cape counterparts, with three wins and a draw from four matches.
Last season Chippa took four points off Stars, winning 2-1 in the Eastern Cape in the first half of the campaign before playing out a goalless draw in the return game. That stalemate was the first draw between the teams and arrived on the final day of the 2016/17 season.
Stars’ line-up from their 1-0 loss to City on November 1: Sangare, Mashego, Keita (Mbhele 65’), Mahamutsa, Phungwayo, Jantjie, Vilakazi, Masehe, Maphakisa (Potsane 57’), Manqele, Mthembu.
Chippa’s line-up from their 2-0 win over Wits on November 1: Akpeyi, Macheke, Okwuosa, Bergman, Maphanga, Mvelase (Mbenyane 58’), Mabaso, Lentjies (Julies 64’), Mdlinzo, Mako, Sekola (Mbokoma 82’).
