Kenya have been dealt a huge blow after Gor Mahia's defender Harun Shakava has been ruled out of the upcoming 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.

Shakava has picked up a recurring injury as the Harambee Stars reported to camp at Nairobi's Utalii Hotel on Sunday.

The defender was part of the Gor Mahia squad that won a record 16th Kenyan Premier League title and has been excused from camp by head coach Paul Put.

Put has since called up Zoo Kericho defender Isaac Kipyegon to replace the lanky centre-back and has also added Nicholas Kipkirui.

The Harambee Stars will take on the Amavubi Stars of Rwanda in their opening match on the December 3.

Put's men are drawn in Pool A against Tanzania, Zanzibar and guest team Libya, as they hope to reclaim the title they last lifted in 2013 at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Pool B has teams such the defending champions Uganda, who will take on Ethiopia, Burundi, South Sudan and guest team Zimbabwe.
