SuperSport United will look to continue their strong form in the Absa Premiership when they host Ajax Cape Town at Mbombela Stadium on 22 November 2017, kick-off at 19h30.
SuperSport have played just five league matches so far this season (due to their extended participation in the CAF Confederation Cup), but a return of three wins, one draw and a loss is more than respectable. In their last outing, the Tshwane side handed Golden Arrows their first league loss, triumphing 3-0 on October 31.
Matsatsantsa have played four times at home so far this season, picking up seven points from a possible 12. Their only home loss was handed to them in the opening round of the season by local rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
Ajax come into the match having drawn 2-2 at home to AmaZulu on November 25. The Cape Town side threw away a two-goal lead late in the game to miss out on a chance to win just their third league match in the 2017/18 season.
The Urban Warriors have struggled away from home in this campaign, claiming just one point from five matches on the road. Their last away game was a 1-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Platinum Stars on November 1.
In head-to-head stats, SuperSport and Ajax have met in 36 league matches since 1999/2000. Matsatsantsa have claimed 14 wins compared to 12 for the Urban Warriors, while 10 matches have been drawn. The Tshwane side has won eight of their 18 home league matches against their Cape Town counterparts, suffering six defeats in the process.
Last season United took four points off Ajax, winning 2-0 in the ‘Mother City’ in the first half of the campaign before playing out a goalless draw in the return game. The last six league meetings between these teams have failed to produce a home win.
SuperSport’s line-up from their 3-0 win over Arrows on October 31: Williams, Nhlapo, Gould, Mashamaite, Boateng, Furman, Letsholonyane, Modiba (Mbule 90+2'), Phala, Grobler (Nkhatha 82'),Brockie (Myeni 87').
Ajax’s line-up from their 2-2 draw with AmaZulu on November 25: February, Lebusa, Booysen, Nhlapo, Evans, Pietersen, Margeman, Mzwakali (Losper 83'), Mosadi (Kabwe 90'), Phohlongo (Mdabuka 73'), Morris.
