South Sudan will be chasing a win in the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup when they meet Ethiopia on Tuesday.
The Group B encounter will see the two East African rivals battling it out for the full three points as they want to reach the semi-finals.
Nicknamed the Bright Stars, South Sudan are yet to taste glory in the regional showpiece and will want do well this year in Kenya.
They finished in the group stages twice, in 2012 and 2014, but reached the quarter-finals in 2015 in Ethiopia and will want to return to winning ways as a team.
Coach Bilal Felix Kamoyangi's side lost 5-1 to Uganda in the 2019 CAF African Cup of Nations Qualifiers in July and also drew 0-0 at home.
Looking at the Walia Ibex, Ethiopia will also want a win in their opening encounter to ensure they remain one of the best sides in the region.
Ethiopia have lifted the trophy four times, reached the final twice in 2000 and 2015, but finished at number four in 1995 and 2010.
As both sides have no points next to their names ahead of this encounter, they will hope to clinch the top spot.
However, that will depend on the result of the game between the Cranes of Uganda and Burundi on Monday.
The two nations have met once in the CECAFA tournament, the Bright Stars lost 2-0 in 2013 and will be gunning for revenge.
This encounter is set to be staged in Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamaega on Tuesday at 14:00.
