The highly-rated forward has opened up about his relationship with Cameroon head coach Hugo Broos.
Bassogog has developed into one of the best African players under Broos' guidance since last year.
Broos kept his faith in Bassogog at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals and the attacker played an important role in helping the team win the tournament.
"I have a very good relationship with Hugo Broos," Bassogog said about the Belgian tactican.
Broos criticized Bassogog after Cameroon's 1-1 draw with Nigeria during their disappointing 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign last September.
"Compared to his statement about me, (after the match Cameroon vs Nigeria (1-1), as part of the third round of the World Cup qualifiers.
"I think it's a way for him to me motivate because I was made the best AFCON 2017 player and there are many people who count on me, waiting for me to make the difference.
"I do not think he wanted to insult me, or do anything else, that was a way for him to boost my spirits," the 22-year-old added.
"And I think he did well to do it. If journalists think that a coach can hurt his player," he continued.
"I think that on this point, you are mistaken. He just wants the player to give the best of what is expected of him."
Bassogog is currently on the books of Chinese Super League side Henan Jianye.
