Egypt will look to make a strong impression at the 2017 U-20 Cosafa Cup when they take on Mozambique in the Group B opener on Wednesday. Kick-off is set for 14h30 CAT at the Arthur Davies Stadium.
The Young Pharaohs are one of two guest teams invited to the Southern African championships and they are expected to be strong contenders for the trophy, having won the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations four times and appeared no less than eight times at the age-group World Cup.
They have brought a squad made up mostly of 17- and 18-year-old players from ENPPI, Al Ahly and Zamalek, as they look to build toward the 2019 U-20 AFCON.
Mozambique, meanwhile, will be looking to improve on their 2016 showing in the U-20 Cosafa tournament, where they played to draws against both DR Congo and Comoros, but failed to advance into the knockout rounds.
The Young Mambas have never won the competition, though they were runners-up in 2008.
The other Group B teams are South Africa and Mauritius, who are set to meet in their opening clash on Thursday afternoon at the Nkana Stadium.
