Mamelodi Sundowns go top after humbling Baroka

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Baroka FC 4-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday night.

As a result, Sundowns climb to the top of the league standings, while Baroka move down to second spot on the log.

The home side broke the deadlock just three minutes into the match after they were awarded a penalty.

Former South Africa Under-20 captain Motjeka Madisha made it 1-0 to Sundowns with a well-taken penalty.

The momentum was Sundowns, who managed to double their lead three minutes before the half-hour mark.

Khama Billiat set up Themba Zwane, who hit the back of the net to make it 2-0 to Sundowns.

Billiat had a chance to extend Sundowns' lead a few minutes later, but he was denied by Baroka goalkeeper Virgil Vries.

Sundowns were deservedly leading 2-0 against Baroka during the half-time break.

Baroka continued to struggle against Sundowns, who managed to score again three minutes after the restart.

Percy Tau was the man, who hit the back of the net to make it 3-0 to Sundowns following a good move.

Vries was beaten again by the South African international and this time he scored with a first time effort to make it 4-0 to Sundowns in the 71st minute.

Sundowns then contained Baroka in the closing stages of the encounter and the home side secured a 4-0 victory.
