Uganda have laid down a marker in Group A of the 2017 U-20 Cosafa Cup after they defeated hosts and defending champions Zambia 2-0 in Kitwe on Wednesday.
Muhammad Shaban scored both goals for the young Cranes, striking in the 52nd and 56th minutes to take his side to the top of the group: they lead Malawi (who defeated Swaziland 3-2 earlier in the day) on goal difference.
Zambia will be looking to get their title defence back on track when they face the young Flames in their second match on Friday, while Uganda will look to rack up successive wins when they face Swaziland.
The U-20 Cosafa Cup will continue on Thursday with a Group C match between Lesotho and Zimbabwe, as well as a Group B clash between South Africa and Mauritius.
