Ajax Cape Town will look to end Chippa United’s unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership when the teams meet at Bidvest Stadium on 9 December 2017, kick-off at 20h15.
Ajax have gone four league matches without a win after they were held 0-0 at bottom-of-the-log Bidvest Wits on December 6. The Cape side have scored just four goals in their last seven matches and will need to start the hitting the back of the net more if they are to have any chance of moving up the table.
The Urban Warriors have performed respectably at home this season, claiming two wins, two draws and suffering just one defeat from five turns as hosts. Their last win in the league was against Bloemfontein Celtic in Cape Town back in October.
Chippa stretched their unbeaten run in the league to an impressive 10 matches when they defeated Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at home on December 6. The Eastern Cape side have gone up to second place on the log, as they are in a four-way tie on 19 points with Mamelodi Sundowns, Baroka FC and Orlando Pirates.
The Chilli Boys have won just once away from home this season (2-0 at Bidvest Wits in November), but they’ve also only lost once on the road (1-0 at Orlando Pirates back in August). Their other four games outside of the Eastern Cape have all ended in draws.
In head-to-head stats, Ajax and Chippa have met in eight league matches since 2012/13. The Urban Warriors have claimed four wins compared to just one for the Chilli Boys, while three matches have been drawn. The Cape side boasts an unbeaten home record in the rivalry, with three wins and a draw from four turns as hosts.
Last season Ajax claimed a league ‘double’ over Chippa, winning 1-0 both in Cape Town and the Eastern Cape. This was the first time that one of these side won both of their league meetings in a single season.
Ajax’s line-up from their 0-0 draw with Wits on December 6: February, Lebusa, Booysen, Nhlapo, Kammies, Pietersen, Mdabuka, Margeman, Mosadi, Mzwakali (Isaacs 79'), Morris (George 83').
Chippa’s line-up from their 1-0 win over Chiefs on December 6: Akpeyi, Macheke, Mako (Mbokoma 65'), Konqobe, Okwuosa, Maphanga, Mabaso, Mdlindzo, Lentjies (Zuke 86'), Mayambela (Mashego 75'), Sekola.
