South Africa have joined Egypt at the top of Group B at the 2017 U-20 Cosafa Cup after they defeated Mozambique 1-0 at Nkana Stadium on Saturday.

Following Egypt’s win over Mauritius earlier in the day, Amajita were under pressure to claim a victory and keep pace with the North Africans.

And they did just that by edging the young Mambas 1-0, with Luvuyo Mkatshana scoring the only goal of the match in injury time at the end of the first half.

The result means SA and Egypt are joint top of Group B - both have six points, having each scored three goals and conceded none.

This means the pair will battle for top spot in the pool when they meet at Nkana Stadium on Monday afternoon.

The other Group B match on the same day between Mauritius and Mozambique is a dead-rubber, as both have been eliminated.

Only the group winners are guaranteed a place in the semifinals.
