Kenya failed to bag their second win in the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge when they drew 0-0 against Zanzibar on Saturday at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
The Harambee Stars were chasing a win following their 2-0 victory over Rwanda in their Group A opener, but failed to crack their opponent's defence.
Coach Paul Put’s side were on the front foot as early as the first whistle, yet their decision making left a lot to be desired.
In the wake of the stalemate, the hosts now occupy the second spot with five points from three matches, behind leaders Zanzibar.
Kenya dominated the proceedings as they probed for an early goal, but were not decisive in front of goal.
The Kenyans failed to convert their 60% of ball possession into goals and allowed Zanzibar to close down all their attacks.
Out of all the nine shots at goal, one was on target for the visitors as neither half could yield the desired results in terms of goals.
From this draw, Zanzibar are yet to lose in the regional tournament and have seven points from three matches at the top of the log table.
Kenya will wrap up their group stage campaign against Tanzania on Monday, whilst Zanzibar will meet Libya on the same day to consolidate their spot in the semifinals.
