Rwanda defeated Tanzania 2-1 in a 2017 CECAFA Cup Tournament showdown at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday afternoon.
Victory, though, was not enough for the Amavubi who exit the East, Central African competition alongside the Taifa Stars with Zanzibar, Libya and hosts Kenya to fight for the two places in the knockout stages from Group A.
Rwanda opened the scoring in the 18th minute through Dominique Savio Nshuti, but were pegged back soon after.
Ayubu Lyanga pulling the two teams level just short of the half-hour mark as Tanzania found an immediate reply.
The 1999 champions regained their lead in the 65th minute through Abeddy Biramahire, but it was not enough for the Amavubi who exit the tournament having only conjured four points from as many games.
Tanzania have one game remaining in the group, but with one point from three matches, the Taifa Stars have no chance of progressing into the next round.
