The Harambee Stars of Kenya will meet Tanzania in a must-win 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge match on Monday in Kenya.
For the hosts, the Group A final encounter follows a win over Rwanda and two draws against Libya as well as Zanzibar in the opening matches of the group.
Coach Paul Put’s side occupies the second spot in the group with five points from three matches and a win will boost their semifinal hopes.
The encounter has all the ingredients of a thriller as the Harambee Stars have to win this to book a last four slot.
On the other hand, a loss and should Libya beat Zanzibar on the same day, then they will exit the tournament.
“I believe we will go all the way. We might have dropped points today but we were a bit unlucky because we had chances which we couldn’t convert,” said coach Paul Put.
“It was a very tough game and I believe it will be tougher against Tanzania, but we have the will to win.”
For the Tanzanians, they are already eliminated in the group and will exit the regional showpiece after the match.
However, the Taifa Stars will want to challenge the hosts’ quality and grab a win to ensure they exit with a single win in the group.
They sit at the bottom of the group with one point, two losses and a single draw against the Mediterranean Knights.
Ahead of this match, the two nations have met 48 times and the hosts have 19 wins, 14 draws and as many losses.
The Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos will be the venue for the clash on Monday afternoon at 16:00.
