Libya have secured a vital 1-0 win over Zanzibar in their final Group A match in the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge on Monday at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
The win means the North Africans will now occupy the second spot in the group with six points from three matches, behind Zanzibar.
However, their qualification to the semifinals depends on the outcome of the encounter between Kenya and Tanzania later on the same day.
Should Kenya lose to Tanzania, the Mediterranean Knights will go through to the last four of the regional tournament and the hosts will exit.
Coming to the match, Alharaish Zakaria found the back of the net for Libya in the 25th minute as they claimed the lead.
Although Zanzibar pushed to find an equaliser, they could not find their way through and it was 1-0 at half time.
With Zanzibar already in the semi-finals, they had nothing to lose, but to fight and maintain an unbeaten run.
However, they failed to create chances in front of goal and settle for a point as it ended with Libya's solitary goal.
The defeat sees them still leading the group with seven points from two wins and a draw with a single loss.
Zanzibar will now meet the runner-up of Group B runner-up, Burundi or Ethiopia on Thursday, December 14 to decide a finalist.
On the other hand, (Group A runners-up) Libya or Kenya will meet the Cranes of Uganda on Friday December 15.
