Maritzburg United head coach Fadlu Davids believes that only SuperSport United can stop Mamelodi Sundowns form winning the 2017-18 Absa Premiership title.

Pisto Mosimane's men currently top what is a very congested league table with a mere 11 points separating 'Downs and defending champions Bidvest Wits who currently occupy last place.

Despite the league having yet to reach the halfway mark, Davids is confident that Sundowns will be crowned champions with Tshwane rivals Matsatsantsa the second favourites.

The Team of Choice take on Sundowns this evening, aiming to extend their winning run to three matches.

“They are the best team in the league and I think they’ve won the league already,” Davids told KickOff.com.

“It’s theirs and I think perhaps SuperSport, if they go on a run and win the games in hand. But for me Sundowns are by far the best team in the league.

“Yes, they went through a three-game losing streak in a row but all the teams in the PSL went through that patch. Five games without a win, six games, 10 games without a win and you look at Arrows, Baroka FC... each team.

“You can go through all the 16 teams and they all have gone through that patch. Maybe SuperSport United because they haven’t played enough games.

“It’s the league, it’s tight and for me Sundowns, I say again, are definitely the best team at the moment," Davids concluded.

SuperSport are also in league action this evening - away to Free State Stars - as they too play catch up following their respective African exploits.
