Mikel rules out Everton switch

John Obi Mikel has dismissed any rumours suggesting that he will be making a return to the English Premier League.

The Super Eagles midfielder is currently plying his trade in the Chinese Super League for Tianjin Teda, having donned the colours of current champions Chelsea for over a decade.

Mikel, 30, has been linked with a move to Everton in the upcoming January transfer window but the Nigeria international was quick to dismiss these reports as 'false rumours'.

"I don't know from where such a rumour could come, but this story is untrue," Mikel told Tianjin TV:

"I want to stay in the CSL and play for [Tianjin] Teda. I'm sure there will be lots of speculation about me as the transfer window nears but it is a false rumour."
