Legendary Ghana defender Samuel Osei Kuffour believes that the Black Stars will not win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

The last time Ghana won the trophy was in 1982 after defeating tournament hosts Libya 7-6 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the final.

Since then the four-time African champions have finished second three times in the prestigious continental competition.

“Our target must be 2021. The current crop cannot win in 2019," Kuffour said on Goal.com.

Ghana recently endured a disappointing 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign and they failed to reach the finals.

“I think we need to do more, we need to prepare very well and make sure we are ready," the retired player added.

“It is not easy as we think. Every country will be going for the title and they will be preparing very well and so we must also do well to prepare," he concluded.

The Black Stars finished third in this year's AFCON tournament. They are sitting at the top of their 2019 AFCON qualifying group having won their first match.

Kuffour, who is a former Bayern Munich star, played for Ghana between 1993 and 2006 making over 50 appearances for the Black Stars.
