Newcastle United will attempt to sign Leicester City’s Algerian striker Islam Slimani on loan, according to the Chronicle.
Magpies manager Rafael Benitez is keen to boost his squad in the January transfer window and has identified the forward line as a priority. United have managed just 16 goals in 18 Premier League matches this season.
Slimani, who has had little playing time with the Foxes and is reportedly desperate to leave the King Power Stadium, would be a great fit for Newcastle.
The 29-year-old is a proven goal scorer and has still managed to find the net four times in three League Cup appearances this season.
If the Algerian can secure a loan move to St James’ Park, it would well reinvigorate a career which has almost stalled since his big-money move to Leicester last year.
