Former African superstars are full of praise for new Liberian president George Weah following his confirmation of his successful election on Friday, December 29.

Following the announcement many former teammates and clubs were quick to congratulate the only African to win the Ballon d'Or award.
“Congratulations Mr. George,” Cote d’Ivoire legend Didier Drogba posted on Twitter.
Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure wrote: “Congratulations president Weah!”
Marseille's former Cameroon midfielder Stephane Mbia applauded Weah as well: “First African Ballon d'Or in 1995, first retired player to be elected president of the Republic. Respect!”
“We knew George Weah well before he became elected president of Liberia. Congratulations to the legend of PSG and world football on this new chapter in his brilliant career,” PSG wrote in English on Twitter.
