Senegal youth international Krepin Diatta says he made the right career choice in switching Norway for Belgium to advance his game to the next level.

The 18-year-old midfielder has joined Belgian giants Club Brugge on a four-and-a-half year deal from Norwegian side Sarpsborg

"The move to Club Brugge is a big step, I'm very happy," he told BBC Sport.

Diatta, who scored eight goals in 27 appearances during his only season at Sarpsborg, is hoping the move can help his development.

"It's great for my career, last season was good which enables me change club. I just want to keep working hard and enjoy my football," he continued.

"I think it's a big progression for me and going to Belgium is good for me to advance my career and take it to the next level

"I had a great start to my professional life in Europe at Sarpsborg and thank them for bringing me to this point.

He lost out to Zambia's Patson Daka for the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) Younger Player of the Year Award.

Diatta, who was talking at the Caf awards ceremony in Accra, was reportedly tracked by Manchester United after he was named in the team of the tournament at the 2017 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Zambia.

"I feel good and happy to make it here because it's a dream come true for me," he said.

"This opportunity (to be recognised) is something many footballers dream about but never get to fulfil, so to be among the nominees (for the young player prize) is a great honour for me."

Diatta began his career at Oslo Football Academy in Dakar before moving to Sarpsborg in February 2017.
