Cape Town City beat Platinum Stars 1-0 to move within one point of Absa Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday evening.
Roland Putsche with the only goal of the game at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, as Dikwena remain in 14th spot on the log standings and in trouble - two points above the drop zone.
Dikwena should've taken the lead in the 10th minute of the clash, but Bongi Ntuli failed in his attempt to hit the target after being sent straight through on goal.
City made a real mess of a Dikwena set-piece, but Ntuli failed to capitalize with the goal at his mercy.
Nana Akosah-Bempah looked the most threatening for the visitors in what turned out to be a rather cagey opening stanza and despite glimpses of brilliance from the young forward, the score would be deadlocked at 0-0 as the teams headed for the tunnel at the interval.
Thamsanqa Mkhize came within inches of opening the scoring six minutes after the break, but he was unlucky to see his attempt canon off the frame with Dino Visser well beaten.
Victor Obinna and Bradley Ralani's introduction off the bench almost reaped immediate rewards for the Citizens with the latter going close to finding the back of the net with his first touch.
On debut, Ralani looked sure to score as he darted towards a loose ball only to guide his attempt straight at Visser with 67 minutes on the clock.
Obinna then sent a rasping effort into the side-netting before Putsche finally found the breakthrough.
The midfielder latching onto a cross by Edmilson Dove in the 82nd minute of the clash to seal all three points for Benni McCarthy's troops who continue their winning run in the league.
