Football clubs in Cote d’Ivoire have called on Ivorian Football Federation president Sidy Diallo to resign from his post.

The call comes after the Elephants’ failure to reach the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia as Diallo is blamed for that failure.

Media reports suggest that the dismal failure continues to have a knock-on effect, with clubs calling for an extraordinary general meeting of the national federation and the removal of Diallo.

The Ivorian Football Federation (IFF) says it has received an official request for a meeting from 38 of the country’s 76 clubs as well as four IFF member interest groups.

“We have seen the regression of our football, and we criticize Sidy Diallo for his lack of vision,” Salif Bictogo, president of the Stella Club Adjamé, told AFP.

“We ask for his resignation.”
