The Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca is rumoured to be a concern for tournament organisers with the opening match of the 2018 Africans Nations Championship (CHAN) just over two days away.

The famous venue will play host to the tournament’s opening ceremony and first match - Morocco v Mauritania - on Saturday evening, but there are worries that it may not be up to standard.

Only last weekend were the new lighting poles erected at the stadium, which was first built in 1955, while a press visit to the venue scheduled for this week was cancelled.

Moroccan website Le 360 Sport reports that the stadium has been closed for over two months for renovations, but there have been delays and setbacks.

Nonetheless, it is expected that the Mohamed V Stadium will still be used for all nine CHAN matches it is scheduled to host: six in the group stage, one quarterfinal, one semifinal and the final on February 4.
