Walter Musona's stunner failed to hand Polokwane City a win when they lost 2-1 to Kaizer Chiefs in the Absa Premiership on Saturday night at FNB Stadium.

Coming from this defeat, City now occupies position 11 with 18 points from 16 league outings.

For the Soweto giants, they scored through Ryan Moon and Dumisani Zuma as they returned to winning ways.

It was a slow start by both sides, but Chiefs’ Itumeleng Khune was called to produce a save in the eighth minute when he collected a stray shot from the midfield.

After the 10th minute, midfielder Wiseman Meyiwa unleashed a shot with a powerful left foot, but the Zimbabwean keeper George Chigova was equal to the task to parry it away for a corner.

In the 20th minute, Rise and Shine fought back to regain possession and were awarded a set piece as Musona netted from long range a minute later to beat Khune on his top right corner.

The 29th minute saw Simphiwe Tshabalala testing Chigova from a distance with his trademark left foot, and the keeper saved with his right foot.

However, a minute later Moon netted from close range with a powerful header resulting from Tshabalala’s corner making it 1-1.

Amakhosi came back in full force in search of their second goal and it was Tshabalala who delivered a telling set piece and Teenage Hadebe missed from close range as his effort sailed over the crossbar in the 55th minute.

The visitors thought they had bagged the lead when Rendani Ndou scored three minutes later, but he was adjudged to have come from an offside position.

Zuma made an immediate impact from the bench to make it 2-1 when he pounced on a cross down the right from Joseph Molangoane, 2-1 to the hosts.

Bernard Molekwa’s troops did not sit back, but fought to level the scores and Musona missed a sitter after wonderful cross from the left flank.

In the injury time, Willard Katsande clipped City skipper Jabulani Maluleke and the visitors had a set piece on the d-line, but the visiting skipper could not hit the target.

After this hard-fought win, Steve Komphela's side now moves to number four with 26 points from 17 league matches.
