Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola laughed off comparisons between Liverpool FC forward Mohamed Salah and FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

Salah has established himself as one of the best players in the English Premier League having scored 18 goals in the competition this season.

His latest goal game against Guardiola’s side on Sunday evening. Liverpool handed City their first league defeat of the season when they beat them 4-3 at the Anfield Stadium.

When asked what he thought of the comparison which the Liverpool ace’s displays have drawn, Guardiola gave a bemused look to his right, suggesting he hadn’t understood the question properly.

Once it was put to him that he had, a smiling Guardiola replied: “A lot of respect for Salah, but like I respect a lot — I help him to challenge.

“But try to avoid being compared to the other guy, please,” he said on The Sun.

Guardiola worked with Argentine forward Messi during his time at Barcelona where the duo enjoyed a lot of success.

Salah has scored scored 24 goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season having also provided seven assists.

He joined the Reds from Italian giants AS Roma prior to the start of the current campaign.
