Percy Tau's consolation strike in Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 win over Orlando Pirates this weekend, brought up a considerable milestone for the Tshwane giants.

For the Brazilians faithful the result will not go down as a memorable moment, but for the club Tau's first-half strike edged his name and the club's in the history books.

The 23-year-old's goal on the day ensured that the Tshwane side became the first team to score 1000 league goals (in 671 matches) since the PSL inception in 1996 - according to Sowetan Live.

According to the same publication, Sundowns first goal in the PSL era was scored by Joel "Fire" Masilela during their 1-0 win over Vaal Professionals on August 18 1996.

Sundowns, the most successful team in the PSL era with seven league titles, are way ahead of their rivals with Kaizer Chiefs currently sitting on 929 goals.

Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates have scored 919 goals, compared to 889 for SuperSport United and 721 goals for current league holders Bidvest Wits.
