The Senegal international has blown hot and cold in the heart of the Everton FC midfield this season - failing to replicate his form from last season.

Gueye was one of the reasons why the Toffees finished seventh on the English Premier League standings and they qualified for this season’s UEFA Europa League.

The 28-year-old established himself as one of the best defensive midfielder in the world with his incredible work-rate and tackling ability.

However, this season, Gueye has been inconsistent and Everton manage Sam Allardyce is reportedly seriously considering signing a new holding midfielder during the current January Transfer Window.

Spanish outlet Marca have revealed that Everton and Sevilla are looking at Omar Mascarell, a Spain-born 24-year-old defensive midfielder who plies his trade with Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga,

Royal Blue Mersey, an Everton fan page, believe that Mascarell would improve the team’s midfield.

“His strengths seem quite reasonable considering he’s renowned for his ball distribution as a defensive midfielder, an area where the Blues have struggled with Idrissa Gueye’s erratic passing and Morgan Schneiderlin’s lacklustre form,” a statement read.

Gueye has made 21 league appearances for Everton this season and he remains the club’s first-choice defensive defensive midfielder.
