Chippa United and Golden Arrows will renew their rivalry in the Absa Premiership when they meet at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on 21 January 2018, kick-off at 15h30.
Chippa had to fight back from a goal down to salvage a 1-1 draw at home to Bidvest Wits on January 14. The result ensured the Eastern Cape side has claimed a healthy four points from two matches since the turn of the year.
The Chilli Boys have a home record of 13 points from nine matches this season, though they have failed to win either of their last two games as hosts. Chippa’s last win at home saw them edge Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 back in early September.
Arrows broke a winless streak of 11 matches when they defeated SuperSport United 1-0 at home on January 14, with Kudakwashe Mahachi scoring the decisive goal. It was the Durban side’s first three-pointer since beating Platinum Stars 1-0 back in September.
Abafana Bes’thende have claimed just 10 points from nine away matches this season. Their last four games on the road have seen them register just one point from a possible 12.
In head-to-head stats, Arrows and Chippa have met in seven league matches since 2012/13. Abafana Bes’thende have claimed three wins compared to one for the Chilli Boys, while three matches have ended in draws. The Eastern Cape side has yet to win a home game in the rivalry, with two draws and a defeat from three turns as hosts.
When the teams met earlier this season they played out a 1-1 draw at Princess Magogo Stadium on 30 September, with goals from Knox Mutizwa and Katlego Mashego. It was a third draw from the last four league meetings of Chippa and Arrows.
