The Botswana Football Association (BFA) has announced that the country will not be hosting the 2018 COSAFA Senior Men's challenge.

The organization stated that they could not manage to secure the needed budget to host the regional tournament ahead of time as government already has made commitment to other national priorities.

The BFA released the following statement on Monday:

“Botswana Football Association Cheif Executive Officer Mfolo E. Mfolo this morning announced that the Association will not be hosting the 2018 COSAFA Senior Men's challenge.

“According to COSAFA the hosting member Association must provide 25% of the required full budget and to be allowed to host.

“The Association could not manage to secure the needed budget ahead of time as government already has made commitment to other national priorities.

“The corporate entities that could assist or have an interest in the tournament are by large already or in competition with the regional body or tied to COSAFA already.
“The best decision was to make a decision that made financial sense and protected the Football Association in the long-term,” a statement read.

South Africa hosted last year’s tournament which was won by Zimbabwe after defeating Zambia in an entertaining final.
