Chelsea will have the final say on whether Ghanaian defender Baba Rahman joins Schalke on loan.
The German club is keen to bring the left-back to the Veltins Arena for the remainder of the 2017/18 season, but are unsure over whether the Blues are ready to do business.
Rahman spent the first half of last season on loan at Schalke before a knee injury he suffered at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations cut his stay short.
Schalke chief Christian Heidel watched Rahman in action for Chelsea’s reserve side this past weekend.
“Getting Baba depends a bit on Chelsea, maybe they want to make something else in the transfer market,” Heidel told Reviersport.
“We do not have the pressure like he has to play tomorrow, so we are waiting quietly.”
Rahman has also been linked with moves to Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Italian club Fiorentina.
