Uganda’s national team skipper Denis Onyango believes the lack of leadership in their embarrassing showing at the 2018 CAF African Nations Championship tournament in Morocco has killed the team.

The Cranes suffered a severe blow at the tournament as they exited without bagging a win in their campaign.

Speaking to the Daily Monitor, Onyango said he was disappointed with the performance of some of the players whilst also praising some of the squad members.

“My challenge was that the team didn’t have a leader on the field to lift the team,” said the to Mamelodi Sundowns keeper based in South Africa.

“I was just disappointed with Nicholas Wadada’s performance as one of the senior players in the team but very much impressed with Isaac Muleme.

“The boys played good football but my worry is that if the coach wants the same football (attacking philosophy) especially at Namboole, they need to work harder. We have the players but we don’t have the facilities.

“I’m hoping we get friendly matches as soon as possible especially to have about five games before then.”
