The Gabon international netted his maiden goal for his English Premier League club Southampton as they defeated West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Lemina netted the Saints’ first goal as they came back from a goal down to secure a 3-2 win over West Brom in an enthralling league game at the St Mary’s Stadium.
The 24-year-old told the club’s official website that he was satisfied with the crucial away win and also called on the team to continue working hard in an effort to maintain their winning run.
“I’m very happy for the team. I know that you have to work hard to get the wins in moments like this and we got an important one today. Let’s hope we can build on this momentum,” Lemina told club website
“This needs to be the standard that we set going forwards. We perhaps ought to have scored again to kill off the game quicker because they had chances and we conceded to let them back in.
“We’re pleased with the win but at 3-2 the result wasn’t as certain as it could have been.”
The central midfielder joined the Saints from Italian football heavyweights Juventus at the beginning of the current campaign.
“The best goal of my career? No, I scored an even better one against the Ivory Coast for Gabon,” he added.
“But still, this was a very important one to get us off the mark. I am proud to have scored my first goal for the club.”
Lemina will be eager to continue his good form when they host Liverpool FC in their next league game on Sunday.
