News coming from Morocco is that the CAF African Nations Championship top goalscorer Ayoub El Kaabi could join Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
El Kaabi finished the CHAN tournament on home soil with nine goals and is likely to join the European side.
Although few players are scouted during the CHAN tournament, El Kaabi seems to have attracted interest from the La Liga side and could leave in summer.
El Kaabi is contracted to RS Berkane and the club’s deputy president, Abdel Majid Madrane has confirmed that Atlético Madrid have expressed a desire to sign Ayoub El Kaabi'.
Furthermore, Madrane revealed that a Moroccan business agent based in Spain initiated the contact with Madrid.
"I am honoured that a club like Atletico Madrid has shown interest in me," said El Kaabi to Radio Mars.
In their 4-0 drubbing of Nigeria in the final, the lanky forward also netted on Sunday and could be in the 2018 FIFA World Cup squad based on his finishing qualities.
Coach Hervé Renard's Morocco is preparing his squad to head to Russia and El Kaabi could be part of the preparations before moving to Spain in the summer.
