Bloemfontein Celtic beat SuperSport United 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 stalemate in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 match at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The home side was awarded a penalty just 17 minutes into the game with Celtic's early pressure paying off.
Ndumiso Mabena was denied from the spot-kick by SuperSport goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa, who was making his debut for the visitors.
But Mabena made amends a few minutes before half-time as he scored from the spot-kick to make it 1-0 to SuperSport after the visitors were awarded another penalty.
Celtic were leading 1-0 at the interval after containing SuperSport.
SuperSport applied some pressure on the Phunya Sele Sele defence after the restart.
Darren Smith was the man, who hit the back of the net - beating Celtic keeper Patrick Tignyemb to make it 1-1.
Matsatsantsa then pushed for winning goal, but they struggled to penetrate the Phunya Sele Sele defence.
The match ended in a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time and extra-time followed.
The two sides failed to score in extra-time and the game went into a penalty shootout.
SuperSport defender Derwin Farmer was the only one who missed his penalty and Celtic emerged 5-4 winners on penalties.
