CAF Confed Cup: Asante Kotoko win, Akwa United stunned

On Sunday eight CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first-leg matches were played across the African continent.

Kenyan side AC Leopards were held to a 1-1 draw by Madagascar’s Fosa Juniors at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, while Ghanaian giants beat Congo-Brazzaville 1-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

In Dar es Salaam, Simba secured a 4-0 win over Djibouti’s Gendarmerie Nationale at the National Stadium, Zimamoto of Zanzibar drew 1–1 with Ethiopian club Welayta Dicha at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar City.

Nigerian side Akwa United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Gambian outfit Banjul Hawks at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, while Rwandan club APR beat Anse Reunion 4-0 at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

Lastly, Ivorian club Africa Sport drew 1-1 with FC Nouadhibou at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan, while RSB Berkane beat Mbour Petite Cote of Senegal 2-1 at the Stade Municipal de Berkane in Berkane.

The return leg matches will be staged next midweek, February 20-21, with the 27 aggregate winners advancing into the first round.
