The left-footed forward was on the scoresheet as Liverpool FC overcame Southampton 2-0 in an English Premier League (EPL) match at the St. Mary's Stadium on Sunday night.
It was Salah's 22nd of the season and he is now one behind top scorer Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur. Salah wants to help Liverpool qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League by finishing in the top for in the Premier League this season.
"It was important for us to get a good start. When you score 10, 15 minutes in, it makes the game easier, less pressure. I’m happy about the start, but we have to keep looking forward," Salah told BBC.
The victory took Liverpool to third place on the league standings and they are two points behind second-placed Manchester United with 11 games left.
When asked about his goalscoring exploits, he added: "I said in the beginning, I always try to help the team. When you score of course you help the team. So I’m not surprised, but we need to forget about the past and keep looking forward.
"We have more league games and the Champions League."
The 25-year-old and his Liverpool team-mates will now take on Portuguese giants FC Porto in a Champions League Last 16 match on Wednesday.
The first-leg encounter will be played at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto.
