With Baroka FC getting ready to face Platinum Stars in the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday, word reaching AfricanFootball.com is that the club has suspended a number of players.

According to a senior team member, the Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele management has since suspended the core of the team after their 2-0 loss to Free State Stars in the Absa Premiership a week ago.

Following the defeat, developments surfaced that coach Kgoloko Thobejane was suspended by the club after allegedly drinking alcohol with the players in the bus.

Although the coach denied the news and said it was a ploy to fire him, his assistant McDonald Makhubedu will hold the fort on Wednesday against Dikwena in Rustenburg.

However, speaking to AfricanFootball.com on Tuesday morning, one of the players revealed that it is not the coach who is on suspension, but the players as well.

“I can’t speak to you regarding the game tomorrow (Wednesday) because I am suspended by the club,” said the player to AfricanFootball.com.

“I asked the club why am I suspended and I have got no answers from them, but all I can say is that I might not play on Wednesday.

“We were told to train alone, not with the team and I can tell you there are many players who are affected by this. I really don’t know why, I tried to get explanation from the club, but nothing.

“The coach (Thobejane) is not the one suspended, we are also facing this and its many players. So I don’t know who will play the match.”

The Ke Yona clash will be staged in Rustenburg's Royal Bafokeng Stadium at 19:30 (CAT).
