In the wake of reports that the Football Association of Zambia is set to sack coach Wedson Nyirenda, the association is rubbishing such reports.

FAZ spokesperson Desmond Katongo is quoted to have said the local football governing body has no intention of making changes in the technical team.

Media reports surfaced in the country that Nyirenda was facing the chop after his failure at the 2018 CAF African Nations Championship in Moroccco.

However, Katongo says Nyirenda will remain in charge to oversee the qualifying campaign for the 2019 CAF African Cup of Nations.

“Wedson will continue as Chipolopolo coach. This means that Wada Wada will be in charge of the team in all the home and away fixtures during the AFCON Cameroon 2019 qualifiers,” read the statement.

According to Soka25East, fans have been calling for Nyirenda to step down after the poor showing and elimination of Zambia at the CHAN quarter-finals in Morocco.

Meanwhile, the 2012 African champions stared their AFCON qualifying campaign with a loss against Mozambique.

They are in Group K with Guinea Bissau, Namibia and the Mambas of Mozambique.
