Senegal and Liverpool striker Sadio Mane has revealed what former Reds defender Jamie Carragher told him against FC Porto.
Mane scored a hat-trick on Wednesday as they demolished the Portuguese giants 5-0 away in their UEFA Champions League clash.
The Senegalese international’s treble, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino’s goals helped the English side to a massive win.
Mane revealed the half-time pep talk he received from Carragher after the game as the 40-year-old was covering the game for Norwegian channel Viasport.
Mane also credited his team-mates after he became the second player to net a treble away from home in Europe, following Michael Owen who scored hat-tricks at Haka in 2001 and Spartak Moscow in 2002.
“He's my good friend,” he told presenter Jan-Aage Fjortoft.
“At half-time he told me to score more goals. I tried and, as a team, luckily I got three goals today and I'm happy.
“I used to be a left-winger, most of my career I played as a right winger.
“For me, to both sides I can play and play for the team. I will play wherever they ask me to play.
“All the time people say, three, but I think it is all the team. They make it easy for us.”
