Despite suffering an injury, Egypt and RC Lens defender Karim Hafez is confident he will join the Pharaohs national team in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Hafez said he is confident he will be back from injury in April to make Hector Cuper’s squad en route to Russia for the global showpiece.

The 21-year-old suffered from an ankle injury during a game for RC Lens that forced him into a surgery, putting the player on the sidelines for three months.

The left-back is one of Cuper’s key squad members and has been vital for his club this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists in Ligue 2.

“I am ready to make a second surgery, in order to start my five weeks rehabilitation period,” said Hafez.

“I am expecting to get back to the field by mid-April.

“I am always in contact with the national team’s coaching staff, I am getting ready from now to be part of the squad travelling to the World Cup, that is my current priority.”

Hafez’s side are currently on a dry spell after failing to win any of their last five fixtures and are sitting in 16th position, only five points away from the relegation zone.
