Cape Town City overcame Chippa United 2-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Athlone Stadium on Friday night.
As a result, Citizens move to sixth place on the league table, while the Chilli Boys remain ninth on the standings.
The match got off to a lively start as the Citizens and Chilli Boys launched attacks in search of an early goal.
Mxolisi Macuphu got the ball in the City box in the 15th minute, but his second touch was poor as the ball sailed over the goal.
Eleven minutes later the deadlock was broken and it was Ayanda Patosi, who scored with a long-range effort to make it 1-0 to City.
Chippa pushed for the equalizing goal, but they could not penetrate the City defence.
The hosts doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time through Lyle Lakay, who scored with a well-taken free-kick to make it 2-0 to City.
The home side was deservedly leading 2-0 at half-time after dominating the first-half.
The two teams continued to attack in each other after the break and Chippa coach Teboho Moloi introduced Katlego Mashego in the 59th minute.
The experienced striker had scored against his former side, Orlando Pirates in Chippa's previous league game.
However, the Chilli Boys could not unlock the Citizens defence which was led by Robyn Johannes in the closing stages of the game.
City held on to their two-goal lead in the dying minutes of the game and they secured a 2-0 win over Chippa.
