Algeria’s ES Setif showed that they are in good form ahead of their CAF Champions League showdown with Ghanaian side Aduana Stars.
Setif claimed a 1-0 victory over Algerian Ligue 1 leaders CS Constantine on Friday. Zakaria Haddouche netted the only goal to hand all three points to the Black Eagles, who moved up to eighth place on the log.
The North Africans progressed through the preliminary round by defeating Central African Republic’s Real de Bangui 6-0 on aggregate, while Ghanaian champions Stars beat Libya’s Al Tahaddy 2-1 over two legs.
The teams are set to meet for the first leg of their last 32 clash on Wednesday at the Nana Agyemang Badu II Park. The return match will be played in Algeria on the weekend of March 16-18, with the winners advancing into the group stage.
Stars will be worried that their preparations have not included any competitive action, as the start of the new Ghana Premier League season was once again delayed this weekend due to a court battle faced by the country’s FA.
