Newcastle United’s Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu has turned his focus to a must-win Premier League match against Southampton this weekend.
The Black Stars wide man returned to United’s starting XI for their 2-0 loss against Liverpool this past Saturday.
While any points the Magpies may have taken from their trip to Anfield would have been seen as a bonus, their match at home to fellow relegation candidates Southampton is a different story altogether.
With both teams hovering just above the red zone, their meeting at St James’ Park on Saturday, March 10, is very much a ‘six-pointer’.
“We wanted to get three points from Bournemouth and against Liverpool, but we couldn’t get them so we have to give everything against Southampton at home,” Atsu told NUFC TV.
“I believe the fans will be behind us. We fought today, we tried everything, and if we put that determination in the next game, I believe we will get the win.”
Newcastle are unbeaten in their last five hone matches, a sequence which includes a win over Manchester United last month.
