According to a Facebook post, Algeria and Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez has retired from professional football due to medical reasons.
The Desert Foxes international appears to have posted a message on his social media platform, suggesting he has been forced to hang up his boots on medical grounds.
Although many remain suspicious after the winger netted a fine set piece against AFC Bournemouth last weekend, the page seems to be verified.
"After the last consultation with many doctors, I've decided to stay away from football,” reads the post.
"I want to thank everybody for the kindness and support they have shown me in this incredible city. You will be always in my heart."
The post follows his February 24 comment on the same platform, that he was ready to play for the King Power-based club just before their English Premier League match against Stoke City at home.
Mahrez saw a deadline-day move to Premier League champions-elect Manchester City fall through in January and the 27-year-old was absent from Leicester for 10 days.
Subsequent to that failure to make a move he boycotted training, but returned to training.
Tuesday’s message has left the fans shocked.
Meanwhile, the club or the player is yet to make an official comment on the matter.
