MC Alger coach Bernard Casoni has admitted to having no knowledge of their CAF Champions League opponents MFM.
The Algerians will face their Nigerian hosts at the Agege Stadium in Lagos this afternoon for the first leg of their first round clash.
Before flying to Nigeria earlier this week, Casoni told El Haddaf TV that they were “going into the unknown”.
"Sincerely, we do not know anything about our future opponent,” he is quoted by Le Buteur.
“We do not even know if we will play on a grass lawn or natural synthetic grass. It's telling you that we are going into the unknown.
“Despite this, we will do everything possible to achieve a very good performance in Nigeria before the second [match].”
MCA struggled in their last away trip in Africa, losing 2-0 to Congo side AS Otoho in the previous round, though they turned the tie around in emphatic fashion by claiming a 9-0 home win in the return leg.
Casoni is eager to ensure his team don’t make the same mistakes as on their trip to Congo.
“[The match against Otoho] is a thing of the past. But it is certain that we will find the same conditions of play or even more extreme.
“It's up to us to adapt to the state of the field, the suffocating heat and the arbitration. And then in a football game, there are things you cannot control.”
The MCA manager added, “I do not hide the fact that the Congo game was a lesson for all of us. This experience will serve as a lesson for us in the future.
“And to be honest, we expect to experience the same conditions in Lagos. It's up to us to take on the challenge and come back to Algiers with a good result.”
